DAWES IN RENO — May 28, 2010

Posted in Extradition 2010 show by Extradition Music on March 29, 2010

I had dinner with a good friend of mine last week and he recommended that I check into booking a band called Dawes for the Extradition Music Series this year.  I have had this request several times to date, requests that have led me to dig into and really start to enjoy Dawes, the band.  You should check out their page here.  Pretty unreal.

I was intending to follow up with their management when I received a message from them: do we want Dawes on May 28 in Reno?   That’s not really an offer that you say no to, so of course we didn’t.  May 28 at the Underground in Reno.  It is going to be a great show.

May is going to be a pretty great month.  We’ve booked four shows so far, and are awaiting final details before we launch the announcement on all of the dates.  This is exactly the sort of thing that we want to happen: when a band is traveling through Reno—from SF to SLC, Phoenix to Boise, or whatever—and they finally start to stop through our town.  I think it is starting to happen.

Dawes will be on the Craig Ferguson Show this Wednesday, March 31, if you want to check them out in advance.

Cowbelleros–This Saturday

For those of you who caught them opening at the Lady Luck Tattoo Festival this last weekend, this is your chance to see the band headline.  This is going to be a great show, and the beginning of a great partnership with the Ale House at Rail City.

We are very excited to announce a partnership with the Ale House at Terrible’s Rail City in Sparks.  For those of you who don’t know, the Ale House is an upgraded dining establishment within the Sparks casino, and they have been putting on blues and jazz nights for some time now.  Now it looks like they want to break into some Extradition Music, and of course, we are more than happy to bring in some great touring and local Americana and Alt-Country shows to their great venue.

Our first show will be headlined by The Cowbelleros, a Reno/Sparks rockabilly group.  The Cowbelleros play a mix of old-timey covers and old-timey originals.  As their bassist, Shawn Buck, told me, they are always writing new material.  They opened for us when we had Wayne “The Train” Hancock in town back in January, and were quite the crowd pleasers.  I was particularly pleased when they ended their show by singing “Folsom Prison Blues” with Wayne himself.

Here are the details:

The Cowbelleros
When: Sa, 3/20, 10pm
Price: $5.  Tickets can be purchased at the door or prior to event at Rail City in Sparks.
Ages: 21 and up

James Hunnicutt at STH

Friday night was great.  Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed it.  We look forward to working with James in the future.  He’s a true professional, and a true performer.

He played for about two hours, with a brief break in between.  He ranged from originals–like “Don’t let the tears” in the video below–to covers of some of the greats: Porter Wagner, Hank (the original), Ricky Nelson, and more.  He is seriously the most unique guitar picker I’ve ever watched up close, and his voice was straight out of the 1950s.  In other words, he killed.

During the show, I got two more requests for bookings in the coming months, which means that we are rolling right along with more offerings every day.  As soon as we hear back from a few artists, we should have some great shows for our great local venues to announce.  We’ll do plenty more free shows in the future, too.

Thanks again to everyone who made it out.
